Now that was a party! More than 60 classmates and their guests enjoyed our 40th Reunion Weekend on October 14th through 16th. For many, this was their first reunion ever, or their first one in 20 years. And they picked a good one to attend. The setting was – no other word will do – perfect. A beautiful Autumn weekend.
Friday a few of us gathered for lunch in Woodstock and afterwards had a "Flashback" fun time picking up prizes to raffle off at the Twin Lakes Dinner. Then the evening at Hurley Mountain Inn went great. A lot of us showed up early and didn't want to leave. We chowed down on pizzas and engaged in lots of reminiscing.
The High School Tour hosted by current Rondout teacher Bev Bennett was a "Blast" for all in attendance. Hardly anyone required a late pass and Nancy Schultz even wore her Hall Monitor Badge to keep us in line. Bagels, donuts and coffee served in the cafeteria took care of our "Munchies". While touring the Gym (they got 2 now) it was hard to resist not breaking out into our Square Dance routines or showing off a few wrestling moves. Boy has that school changed. After some of us got lost in the new maze of hallways it became apparent that kids these days really do need cell phones so they can find their way around school with a GPS App.
The dinner party at Twin Lakes was, what can I say, Spectacular. Wow, you folks are staying in great shape. I "Freaked Out" thinking I was mistakenly at the 1991 Reunion when I walked in. Then the DJ playing music from our era made me feel right at home. But still, Senior photo Name tags definitely helped identify us (thanks for the suggestion Cindy Collins). I walked around in a kind of "Purple Haze", just enjoying seeing all these people reconnecting. And thanks for those that tore up the dance floor (Rose, Katie, Eddie and Linda to mention a few), helping keep the party lively. Sue Dorfner did an "Outta Sight" job collecting and displaying class memorabilia. And kudos to some former Choir members (Wendy, Joe, Ed D.) for helping lead an out-of-tune Reunion Committee in a rendition of the School Song.
On Sunday, some of us headed to the river for a "Far Out" hike across The Walkway on the Hudson. Others traversed the mountain for the Mohonk experience. It was another "Groovy" day with beautiful scenery. Perfect for a hike up to the Tower. We skipped the Lemon Squeeze, didn't think we could still fit. But it was nice to recall our Un-Prom on the Lake.
Then in the afternoon, the Rosendale Rec Center was the last event on the agenda. A time to chow down on some more food and get a bit more conversation in.
Then before we knew it, it was all over. What a "Bummer", where did the time go? I don't think we got in nearly enough hugs and handshakes. Anyway, thanks for all who attended. and those of you that couldn't make it, you were in our thoughts and conversation and we sure hope you make the next one. More than once, I heard people say, “We should do this every year!” Sounds good to me! It was great seeing everyone! And thanks once again to those that donated their time and resources.
Some Photos from the bash will be posted on the website. We are also setting up a Flickr Photo Album so expect to get an email with a link to it. And a Contact List of classmates is being compiled and we will probably contact you to confirm information.
Until we meet again,
Go, Ganders and "Keep On Truckin"!
